Chandler Moore Shares Rehab Journey as He Scores Major Career Milestone With ‘God I’m Just Grateful’

In 2018, rising artist Chandler Moore rose to fame when he helped found Maverick City Music and participated in their breakthrough songwriting camps. Since then, Moore has been credited with over 300 songs on Genius, while databases like Muso.AI list him with over 1,400 total music credits (including performance, writing and production).

While many debates have come up over the years regarding his authenticity and theology, Moore recently shared that he admitted himself to rehab in 2023—something he kept primarily private until now. On Sept. 11, the Grammy winner posted a short video of himself on Instagram in which he sang about checking himself into rehab, adding that it was the "hardest thing" he's ever done. 

“I checked into rehab today,” he sings as he plays a keyboard. “They took my phone and then they took my belt. It’s the hardest thing I’ve done, but I knew something had to change. So, I checked into rehab today.”

Moore's tune about his time in rehab comes in National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, which is in September. Moore, in an earlier Instagram post, mentioned what happened during "those 40 days in the wilderness that wrecked me."

“Those 40 days in the wilderness wrecked me in the best and worst ways. I met myself in the most painful, yet most beautiful way," Moore wrote. "I met God in a way that stripped me down. I found people who didn’t flinch at my story. And God Himself walked into the pit with me and refused to leave until I could breathe again.”

In addition to sharing about his stint in rehab and putting it into his music, Moore is also celebrating a major career milestone. A collaboration between him and Elevation Worship recently cracked the Billboard Hot 100, a first for both, according to Relevant Magazine.

This happened after their song “God, I’m Just Grateful” landed on the chart at no. 91.

In an Instagram post, Moore recognized the achievement and, much like the tune's title, was grateful.

“This is crazy,” he said. “’God I’m Just Grateful’ is officially in Billboard Hot 100. It is my first time. That is… I’m processing live right now. But thank you, Billboard. But thank you to everybody who has played it, has listened, who has screamed it. You’ve let your kids love it and fall in love with it. You’ve played it on repeat and gotten sick of it probably by now. Thank y’all.”

Later in the video, he added what he hopes is accomplished with the song.

“It’s not about me, I just hope the message of gratitude, that when you set your perspective on paying attention to the things that are going well, and the things that God has done and you set your perspective on gratitude, then there’s nothing that can stop and your perspective is right.”

Even though Moore was a founding member of Maverick City, he left the collective in October 2025. According to The Roys Report, this move occurred as the musician filed a lawsuit accusing CEO Norman Gyamfi of "fraud, forgery, and $800,000 in stolen royalties." The outlet adds that Moore's case is still pending in federal court.
