Ravens’ Tyler Loop Credits Scripture, God’s Faithfulness after Game-Winning 56-Yarder

Nine months after missing the most devastating kick of his life, Baltimore’s Tyler Loop experienced the opposite emotion Sunday with the biggest boot of his young pro career — and then testified in postgame interviews about how Scripture and God’s faithfulness had helped him navigate the offseason.

Loop’s 56-yard field goal lifted the Ravens to a stunning 34-31 victory over Dallas as time expired, sending Loop and his teammates —including quarterback Lamar Jackson — into a frenzied celebration in front of the Rio crowd, punctuating the moment with soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous “Siu” celebration.

Just nine months earlier, though, Loop was anything but the hero after missing a 44-yard field goal in the last game of the season that would have sent Baltimore to the playoffs.

On Sunday, he said his Christian faith had sustained him through the disappointment and helped him grow through the adversity.

“[There was] a lot of adversity between last season and now — and man, God's been so faithful to me to just help me grow mentally, grow spiritually,” he said in a postgame interview posted on the Ravens’ official YouTube channel.

In fact, Loop said the Ravens’ 2026 theme —“one accord” — is based on Scripture.

“[It’s a] Scripture that talks about the strand of three is not easily broken, and that's what you saw tonight. This team responded. There was adversity, and then we went and responded, and we delivered. It was awesome.”

Loop added that he takes joy “knowing that those guys are going to have my back the way I'm going to try and have their back.”

Reflecting on the season-ending kick that made him the talk of the NFL for all the wrong reasons, Loop said it’s “been a pleasure to have teammates like these guys and the rest of the locker room kind of stand behind me and support me.”

Drafted out of Arizona in 2025, Loop has been one of the NFL’s most outspoken Christians, frequently discussing his faith in interviews and describing himself as a “Christ follower” on his Instagram bio.

Loop even referenced his faith in January, telling reporters in the immediate aftermath of the miss that he trusted God’s plan.

“Faith is a big part of my life,” Loop said in January, moments after walking off the field in a loss. “Right now I'm reading the book of Romans, and in Romans 8 it says, ‘And God works for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.’ It's a verse — it just reminds me [that] ultimately, I'm here to love on the guys around me, and I'm here to try and have their back and be a good teammate and be a good representative of the organization and steward the gifts I've been given.”

Baltimore running back Derrick Henry even told reporters last January that he believed God would use the painful moment for a greater purpose.

“I feel for Tyler. I just told him to keep his spirits up, deal with it tonight and then tomorrow the sun rises again,” Henry said in January. “... God put him in this position to use him as an example. … I can't wait to see him overcome it on the other side. I just told him to trust God's plan. He wouldn't have him put in this position if he wasn't strong enough to handle it.”
