Finding Joy in the Cold | Your Nightly Prayer

Winter can feel endless—more darkness, colder days, and the temptation to just “get through” until spring arrives. But Scripture calls us to rejoice in the Lord always and give thanks in all circumstances, even when we don’t love the season we’re in. Paul wrote “Rejoice… always” while in prison and no stranger to hardship. That makes his instruction even more striking: joy isn’t rooted in comfort, but in Christ. Contentment grows when we look to Jesus as our strength and choose to praise Him in every season. If we’re willing to look, even winter holds reminders of God’s beauty and grace—like snow that reflects the Creator’s majesty and points us to the One who makes us clean and new. TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” — Philippians 4:4 YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER God, In these cold, dark days, I admit I’m tempted to rush past this season and wish it away. I want warmth, light, and new life. But tonight, I ask You to teach me to rejoice in You—not only when life feels bright and easy, but even when it feels quiet, bleak, or heavy. Lord, train my heart for contentment. Help me remember that joy isn’t something I manufacture through better circumstances; it’s something I receive as I look to You. When I’m tired, discouraged, or impatient, be my strength. Open my eyes to see Your goodness in the middle of winter. Let the beauty in this season remind me that You are kind, steady, and faithful—and that in Christ You have covered my sin and given me Your righteousness. As I rest tonight, help me rejoice in You again. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Prayer to Walk in Godly Character | Your Daily Prayer

Talent can impress, but character impacts people and environments in lasting ways. Integrity in small choices reveals what’s happening in the heart and shapes our witness. Christians are called to be ambassadors, representing God’s kingdom everywhere we go. Colossians 3:23 encourages us to work and live wholeheartedly as if serving the Lord. Godly character can draw others toward Christ through humility, consistency, and love.

A Prayer to Renew Your Mind and Transform Your Thoughts | Your Daily Prayer

When life feels heavy, it doesn’t just affect our schedules—it affects our thoughts. This devotional begins with a picture of community: a small group faithfully studying Scripture together in the middle of real-life chaos—toddlers, teens, and nonstop responsibilities. But even in that meaningful rhythm, they began to notice something: resistance. Delays, disruptions, sickness, financial strain, and unexpected emergencies kept piling up, and it felt as if something was actively working against their time in the Word. That experience leads to an important reminder: spiritual battles often show up first in the mind. When pressure increases, discouragement can settle in, and the patterns of the world can begin to shape what we believe, fear, or chase. That’s why Romans 12:2 is so central here—renewal isn’t just about trying harder; it’s about being transformed from the inside out. When our minds are renewed, we begin to see more clearly, discern God’s will, and resist the pull of destructive patterns. The devotional also points out that when believers feel divided, distracted, or weighed down, returning to the basics matters. We don’t fight heaviness with more noise—we fight it with truth, community, and grace. That can look like meeting regularly with other believers, standing firm together in God’s Word, and speaking Scripture aloud so truth gets deeper than emotion. It also means giving ourselves grace when we fail—remembering that confession and repentance are gifts, not punishments. Renewing your mind is a daily practice. It’s choosing, again and again, to let God’s promises reshape your thoughts instead of letting the world define them. And as God transforms your thinking, He strengthens your faith, grows unity with other believers, and steadies you for whatever comes next. Main Takeaways Spiritual heaviness often affects our thought life first, which is why renewing the mind is essential. God transforms us from the inside out as we resist the world’s patterns and cling to His truth. Community matters—meeting regularly with other believers strengthens faith and unity. Speaking Scripture aloud can help anchor truth in your heart and interrupt destructive thought patterns. Grace is part of renewal; when we fail, we can confess, repent, and start again with God’s help. Today’s Bible Verse Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. - Romans 12:2 Your Daily Prayer Here is a brief excerpt from today’s prayer: “Renew our minds, transform our thoughts, and give us the tools to lean into our faith when this life veers off course.”

Grace for the Unfinished Places | Your Nightly Prayer

Waiting is one of the hardest parts of life because most things take longer than we want them to. Maybe you’re waiting for a breakthrough, a healing, a restored relationship, a job, direction, or simply relief—and the delay is stretching your faith thin. The truth is, God works in both the sudden and the slow. Sometimes He answers quickly. Other times, He builds something deeper in us while we wait—patience, endurance, maturity, trust. And just because you don’t see movement doesn’t mean nothing is happening. Philippians 1:6 reminds us that God is not careless with unfinished things. He doesn’t begin work in you and then abandon the project. He is faithful. He is intentional. And He will carry His work forward until it is complete. So tonight, take comfort in this: your progress may feel slow, but God’s grip on your life is steady. Even in the delay, His grace is still active—and His timing is still good. TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” — Philippians 1:6 YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER Heavenly Father, Teach me to wait with confidence in You and Your love. When life slows down, and answers take longer than I hope, remind me You are still at work. You never delay out of neglect, but out of love and wisdom. Help me to rest in Your timing, knowing You finish what You start. Strengthen my patience and faith in every season so my waiting is infused with worship and my heart rests in Your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Life out of control

Genesis 25:34–26:9 continues the powerful story of Jacob and Esau—a family torn apart by deceit, jealousy, and favoritism, yet held together by God’s redeeming grace. Though sin brings division and pain, God’s purposes never fail.

THE BOOK OF LIFE! Are YOU in it? A post-Charlie Kirk urgent message elaborated on by author Stephen Volk

The Spiritual Battle

Genesis 25:19–26:33 reveals the inner spiritual battle between the flesh and the Spirit, as seen in the lives of Isaac, Jacob, and Esau. Fear, impulsiveness, and deception show how easy it is to follow the desires of our fallen nature, while God’s grace and guidance offer restoration and blessing.

Tim Conway Reflects on Life Before Fame and His Legendary Dentist Sketch

Tim Conway reflected on life before fame and his legendary dentist sketch. The late comedic legend spoke with fellow comedian Conan O’Brien about growing up, what he intended to do before show business and one of the funniest skits in television history. Watch the short but hysterical clip to hear from the one and only Tim Conway.

In terms of comedic television, it will be hard for anyone ever to top The Carol Burnett Show. The program is absolutely legendary, with clips of the show still making people burst into uncontrollable bouts of laughter decades after it ended its run on television. I challenge you to watch one of the show’s many skits and not burst out laughing at least once.

One of the main reasons the show was and is so beloved is because of its all-star cast. Carol Burnett, Harvey Korman and Vicki Lawrence are a heck of a talented lineup. Now, while the show was named after Carol, it was arguably Tim, another cast member, who stole the show most often. Anytime he was in a skit, you just knew something deliriously funny was not too far away.

While being interviewed by Conan O’Brien, Tim shared details about his life growing up in Northwest Ohio and how he originally wanted to be a jockey before show business got in the way.

Then, Tim shared some tidbits about the legendary dentist sketch, in which Harvey completely loses it, pretty much from the get-go. Tim, playing the dentist, accidentally injects himself with Novocain on several occasions, causing parts of his body to go to sleep.

Unbelievably, Tim mentioned that during his time in the Army, that exact thing happened to him when he went to see a dentist. That would have been more than a little frightening. The Carol Burnett Show version is a lot funnier, I’m sure.

Psalm 126:2 “Then our mouths were full of laughing, and our tongues gave a glad cry; they said among the nations, ‘The Lord has done great things for them.’”

A Prayer for Mission Trips and Serving Away from Home | Your Daily Prayer

If you have loved ones going on a mission trip—or if you’re preparing for one yourself—this devotional is an encouragement that you are not alone. God goes before His people, watches over them wherever they go, and promises not to leave them. That truth brings peace for the traveler and comfort for those who remain at home. Today’s focus is a call to cover missionaries in prayer: for spiritual strength, humility, cultural understanding, protection, and a Christ-like love that shines brightly in every place they serve.

Ordinary Time: Why the “In-Between” Season Shapes Your Faith

Most of life isn’t Advent, Lent, or Easter—it’s the in-between. The normal weeks. The repetitive days. The “nothing special” seasons. And that’s exactly where many Christians quietly drift, grow numb, or assume God is less active.

On this episode of Thinking Christian James Spencer is joined by Dr. Amy Peeler, the Kenneth T. Wessner Chair of Biblical Studies at Wheaton College and author of Ordinary Time. James and Amy talk about what “ordinary time” is in the church calendar, why it’s represented by the color green, and how this long season is meant to form us—not through fireworks, but through steady growth, reflection, worship, and rest.

They also explore why modern life makes reflection difficult, how the church calendar can reshape our relationship to time, and why “ordinary” might be the most spiritually important category for most of your year.

Welcoming God’s Direction | Your Nightly Prayer

Lord, You know how often I try to force events to go my way. Instead of waiting on You or seeking Your will, I rush forward and miss the path You had lovingly made. From now on, help me to be quick to welcome Your direction instead of trusting in my knowledge or feelings. God, You know the best steps forward. I don’t want to get ahead of Your timing. Grant me patience as I wait, and diligence to search Your Word to find encouragement and guidance. And help me to rest in Your plan, accepting the path You set before me. May I do Your will, and not my own. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Peace That Guides the New Year | Your Nightly Prayer

In this episode of Your Nightly Prayer, Angie Grant's devotional peace guides us into the new year, reminding us that God's peace is like a fresh box of crayons - full of possibilities and order. Just as a new box of crayons brings creativity without fear of needing to be perfect, God's peace tells us we don't have to be perfect, just stay with Him. We can walk into a new season or year with courage and joy, trusting His peace to guide our steps.

Isaac and Rebekah – trusting God

Genesis 24:29–25:11 tells the inspiring story of Isaac and Rebekah, showing the importance of trusting God’s guidance in relationships. Abraham’s servant models prayer, honesty, and surrender, while Rebekah demonstrates faith and courage by obeying God’s call.

Carol Burnett Stunned When a Familiar Face and Co-Star Delivers a Surprise Musical Performance

Carol Burnett was left stunned when a familiar face and a co-star delivered a surprise musical performance. The tune this individual sang was also very familiar to most, and particularly meaningful to Carol. Watch the short, but tear-jerking clip to see Carol’s look of utter shock and disbelief when this person stepped out on the stage.

Carol Burnett is a Hollywood icon and a comedic legend. She has had a long, illustrious and storied career spanning decades. If they were to make a Mt. Rushmore of comedy, Carol’s face would most certainly belong on that monument.

While she is best known for her legendary television comedy show, The Carol Burnett Show, she also appeared in a handful of recognizable and iconic films. Of course, the one that immediately comes to mind is the 1982 musical “Annie.” That’s one that everyone is familiar with, even if you are not a fan of musicals.

In the movie, Carol played the evil Miss Hannigan. Starring alongside her in the film was Bernadette Peters. A clip posted on social media captured a special moment, a reunion between the two “Annie” co-stars.

It’s clear from Carol’s reaction that she was not made aware of Bernadette’s appearance beforehand. Her mouth is literally left hanging open as she takes the stage and sings a song that everyone knows and loves. She is just as surprised as everyone in the audience, who can be heard hooting and hollering at the announcement of Bernadette Peters. Bernadette beautifully performed the song that Carol would sing at the end of every episode of The Carol Burnett Show.

Despite being in her 90s, Carol remains relatively active, popping up in television shows and movies from time to time, and why not? If she is still willing and able to do it, more power to her. There aren’t many people who will say they’ve had their fill of Carol Burnett. She remains as beloved as ever.

Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

He Sees the Whole Road Ahead | Your Nightly Prayer

Dear God, Tonight we come to You with uncertainty and questions we can’t answer. We want clarity because we think it will make us feel safe. But tonight, we choose to trust You instead. Thank You for the reminder that Your Word is the light on our path when the road feels unclear. When fear creeps in, help us lean into Your Word. Give us courage to take the next step You place before us, and strength to loosen our grip on control. Remind us that You are already where we are going—You’ve already prepared the road ahead, and You will guide us one step at a time. Fill our hearts with peace as we rest tonight. We surrender what we cannot see and trust Your plans are greater than our plans. In Your name we pray, Amen.

A Prayer to Remember You're Engraved on God's Hands | Your Daily Prayer

There’s a unique ache that comes from feeling noticed but not truly known. In today’s devotional, the author shares a deeply personal experience of sitting in a separate family worship room at church with her special needs daughter—a space designed for accommodation, but one that often carried the weight of isolation. While people were kind, the deeper sense of being seen, understood, and included still felt out of reach. In that quiet separation, she wrestled with what many of us face in different forms: the longing to belong and to be genuinely known. But what she discovered in that room was this—God met her faithfully. Even when the larger community didn’t fully understand her experience, God’s presence was steady and personal. And that’s where Isaiah 49:16 becomes more than a comforting verse; it becomes a lifeline. God doesn’t merely notice His people from a distance. He has engraved them on the palms of His hands—permanently, intentionally, and intimately. That means your name, your story, your struggles, and your unique life are never out of His sight. The devotional also emphasizes the powerful truth that only God can fill the “God-sized” longing in our hearts—the need to be fully known and deeply loved. People may see the surface. They may overlook the quiet battles you fight or misunderstand your situation. But God sees the whole picture, and He never looks away. Even when your world feels chaotic, unfamiliar, or lonely, you are not invisible to Him. You are known, remembered, and held close—always. Main Takeaways Being noticed isn’t the same as being truly known—and God knows you completely. God’s love is personal and permanent; you are “engraved” on His hands. Your story, struggles, and needs are always before God—He never looks away. The longing to be deeply understood can only be fully satisfied by your Creator. Even when people don’t “get it,” God’s presence remains faithful and near. Today’s Bible Verse: Isaiah 49:16 Your Daily Prayer Here is a brief excerpt from today’s prayer: “When I feel unknown or misunderstood by the people around me, remind me that You see me completely and love me perfectly.”
